Purpose Of Course

The Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), 1998, in relation to Abrasive Wheels legislate that all machinery is suitably maintained and all employees, including those using materials and managing the operations of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use. Abrasive wheels are used in many areas and can be highly dangerous if used by untrained personnel.

Objectives Of The Course

The course will equip delegates with the knowledge and skills to ensure that safety issues are managed effectively, protecting the workforce, other people and the general environment and ensuring that legal compliance is achieved.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at Managers, Supervisors and Operatives whose daily tasks may involve the use, or supervision, of abrasive wheels.

  • Overview of Health and Safety Legislation
  • PUWER 1998
  • Accident Causation
  • Hazard arising from use and precautions
  • The use of personal protective equipment
  • Method of marking as to type and speed
  • Method of storage, handling and transporting wheels
  • Method of testing and inspection for damage
  • Function of all components and the correct method of mounting and balancing
  • Method of dressing an abrasive wheel (Pedestal Grinders)
  • The adjustment of the Rest (Pedestal Grinders)
